Logan Glock wins Super Series at Palencia

Congratulations to tennis member Logan Glock from the entire Mid-Cape Racquet & Health Club team and especially from Head Pro Fran Coryell for winning the Boys 10’s and under Super Series at Palencia on June 1st 2009. Logan won all four matches he played in the tournament without dropping a set, and defeated his finals opponent 6-2,6-0. Logan has won 7 other junior tournaments in 2009, including several other super series events.

Logan Glock, who has worked with Fran Coryell over the past 3 years, has steadily climbed the rankings in his age division. Logan is currently ranked 23rd in the state of Florida, and this tournament win will likely push him into the top 20. Said Head Pro Fran Coryell, “Logan has exceptional power of both his forehand and backhand and has developed smooth hands at the net for his volleys. I expect him to become and stay a dominant force in juniors for quite a while. He has great racquet speed and is an aggressive player, all positive traits for today’s game.”

Hey Everyone.

As most of you know, we held our 2009 Summer USTA Rookie Tournament. We had some great results from our academy members.

In the Girls 12’s, congrats to academy member Kristen “Killer” Angilletta, won her first match in the quarterfinals, defeated the #2 seed in the semi-finals and lost a close finals match in the main draw. Great job Killer!!!

Also, congrats to academy member Leah Meredith, who had to unfortunately draw the eventual champion in the first round, for winning the consolation final with a dramatic 8-6 comeback. That’s a great result for someone’s first tournament.

And congrats to Karina “Hurricane” Tuohy for playing in and giving her best effort in her first USTA sanctioned tournament.

In the Girls 14’s, congratulations to Academy member Katia Khatskevich, who was the 2nd seed, for winning the tournament over the number the #1 seed 8-3. Way to bring home the gold.

In other Girls 14’s action, congratulations to Daria Parks and Tara “Terror” Stauss for their first round victories in the main draw. Next time though, try not to knock out fellow academy members Laura Burchers and Kayla Talbott. Laura Burchers went on to win her first consolation match before losing in the finals of the consolation tournament. Great job to Kayla for doing her best in her tournament matches.

In the Boys 12’s, congratulations go out to academy member Brandt Williamson, for winning the consolation finals 8-1. Brandt got to bring home a nice trophy for his fine effort. Keep working on your game Brandt.

In the Boys 14’s draw, congratulations to academy member Mitch Irvin for his first round win. Mitch unfortunately lost to the eventual champion in the next round, but gained a lot of experience in the process.

In the Boys 16’s draw, congratulations to academy member Nick Boye for defeating the #1 seed in his first round match in an exciting match that went to a tiebreaker. Nick showed what he’s made of by winning the tiebreaker 7-1. Nick was in the finals tied at 4-4 before a few points got away from him and the match slipped away. Overall, a great performance by Nick. + Thanks for everyone who played and contributed to our tournament. I’d also like to thank academy member Shayna Talbott for helping out during the day and being our Refueling Station Distributor Executive and to Coach Sebastian for being our Head Referee and Crowd Control Manager. Also thanks to Bob and Suz Lynch, for allowing us to hold the tournament at Mid-Cape, Domino’s Pizza for the pizza party, Jane’s Tennis Nook for the door prizes, and to Chick-Fil-A for donating the free chicken sandwich cards.

See ya soon

Spring Junior Appreciation Day Review

On March 2nd, Mid-Cape Racquet & Health Club held its first annual Tennis Junior Appreciation Day.  Head Pro Fran Coryell, Racquet Sports Director, Jack Dunmead, and a multitude of other Mid-Cape tennis instructors conducted nearly 50 juniors with a fun-filled 2 hours of instruction and games.

This event was FREE for all juniors ages 4 to 16.  Dominoes of Cape Coral co-sponsored event with free pizza for all the participants after the clinic and
Pepsi Bottling Group provided free refreshments.

Mid-Cape used this event as an information "launching pad" for our upcoming Quickstart Program, Junior Programs, Tennis Academy, and Summer Camp.

We'll be in touch with all of you shortly and see if there's a new program your kids may be interested this season.

Please call the club at 573-3210 to register your child for our upcoming Junior Programs
